Snowvernighter

Usually held on a Thursday in late January or early February, the Snowvernighter gives Carmel students a chance to spend the night at school with their friends. Students must be at least 6 years old to stay overnight, but children who aren't quite ready for a full night away can still join the fun for part of the evening.

The Snowvernighter is intentionally pretty relaxed. Students have time to hang out, play games, watch movies, set up tents, share snacks, and simply enjoy being together without the usual school-day responsibilities. With parent permission, students may bring games, electronic devices, snacks, and other activities from home. Tents have become especially popular over the years, turning classrooms and shared spaces into overnight campsites. CMA cannot be responsible for personal games, toys, electronics, or other belongings that are lost or damaged during the event.

Another Snowvernighter favorite is the annual baking contest, which students look forward to each year. Dinner, snacks, and drinks are provided during the evening, followed by breakfast on Friday morning. Families will have an opportunity to sign up for breakfast donations, and parent help with serving breakfast and morning cleanup is always appreciated.

If the weather cooperates, Friday morning continues with sledding at Windmill Park in Batavia. Students who stayed overnight may be picked up Friday morning before sledding or stay for their regularly scheduled school hours.

Students who attend any portion of the Snowvernighter beyond their regular school-day hours are responsible for the full event fee, even if they do not stay overnight. Children who do not attend CMA may participate only with prior permission from the administrator.

Mostly, the Snowvernighter is a chance for the kids to be kids—to spend extra time with their friends, stay up later than usual, laugh, bake, play, and make some very Carmel memories together.
