Plays and Performances

Each year, Carmel students put on two plays, a Holiday Play in December and a Spring Play in May. Both performances take place at the Warrenville Community Center, and every student, from age 3 through 18, has a part.

The productions are very much a whole-school project. Roles are chosen with the individual students in mind, and children of all ages spend time rehearsing and preparing together. Past Holiday Plays have included The Grinch, A Christmas Story, and The Nutcracker. Spring productions have included Shrek and Glimmerlin, an original play written by Mr. L. Students also have quite a bit of input throughout the process and help shape the production as it comes together.

One of the nicest parts of these performances is seeing all of the children on stage together. Younger students get to work alongside the older students, older students have opportunities to help and lead, and everyone contributes in their own way. It is also a chance for families to see the many different personalities and talents within the Carmel community.

A bake sale is held during each performance, with families often contributing homemade treats. Items are sold for a small fee, and the proceeds go back into Carmel’s performance program.
