Warren Dunes Adventures!

The drive to the camp site was very cloudy and rainy, and continued on throughout the rest of the day until about 8:00 pm. We passed the time in the van by playing games, just chatting, and eventually going out into the pouring rain to set up a canopy tent. However, the rain on the first day didn’t stop us from having an amazing time!

Every other day we lucked out on weather, with beautiful 60-70 degree days and gorgeous sunrises at the top of the dunes!

Mr.L taught us all how to measure the height of the dunes, the length, frequencies, and velocity of the waves at Lake Michigan, and the temperatures of different environments at different times of the day. We also learned how to measure our potential energy at the top of the dune! Learning about the measures of the dunes and waves with real physical examples helped us to better visualize and understand what we have been learning in class!

We practiced physical endurance by hiking the dunes everyday to the beach, with the exception of one morning, where we hiked through a more forested trail area on the dunes.

During our trip, we had many adventures and got closer with one another in the process. A huge portion of the trip was about the social and personal aspects of Montessori philosophy, and it shows through the friendships and memories that were formed during the few nights we were all together. Carmel is truly a family.

Everyone had a blast on the camping trip and had just as much fun at our yearly barn dance! Stay tuned to hear about the square dancing fun!
