High School History Beyond the Classroom

Each year, Carmel’s Erdkinder students take an extended history trip as part of their curriculum, allowing them to experience the people, places, and events they have studied in a more meaningful way. Recent trips have taken students to Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., where they have explored historic sites, museums, monuments, and landmarks connected to American history.

For Carmel students, the trip is about more than visiting historic places. They travel and learn together, connect their studies to the world around them, and experience history in a way that can’t be recreated in a classroom.

Traveling as a group also builds independence, responsibility, and community. Students learn to navigate new places, manage themselves away from home, stay aware of the group’s needs, and share experiences with their classmates.

These annual trips are another way Carmel extends learning beyond the classroom, giving students the chance to see where history happened, experience it together, and make it part of their own story.
